Eczema, also called dermatitis, is a chronic disorder that causes extremely itchy, inflamed skin.  Eczema: atopic or allergic, contact dermatitis, is due to skin contact with an irritant.(chemicals, plants, shoes, clothing, metal compounds etc. Temperature humidity changes and emotional stress may contribute to the condition which often accompanies other allergic diseases such as hay fever and asthma.   Dietary factors are important, especially in children. Milk and milk products are the commonest triggers.

Eczema - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent skin conditions. These include dryness and recurring skin rashes that are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin edema (swelling), itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. Areas of temporary skin discoloration may appear and are sometimes due to healed lesions. Scratching open a healing lesion may result in scarring and may enlarge the rash.
