causes ulceration and inflammation of the inner lining of the colon and
rectum. Crohn's disease extends into the deeper layer of the intestinal
wall.
The most common symptoms of ulcerative colitis are abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. Ulcerative colitis involves only the large intestine, or colon. The cause is not known current theory is that a virus or an atypical bacterium, causes an inflammatory reaction in the intestinal wall. |
