Idiopathic (Bell's) palsy is a benign weakness of the infratemporal portion of the facial nerve. It is typically a self-limiting process which is not life-threatening. It typically improves in 4-6 months and almost always by12. It is a  " viral " attack on the facial nerve occurring in approximately 4 persons out of 10,000.
